Missouri lawmaker wants dancing option for P.E. requirement
February 8 2010 - A lawmaker has waltzed into the House with new legislation giving students the option to get class credit for ballroom dancing. Rep. Tim Flook, R-Liberty, has written a bill allowing students in public schools to take a ballroom dance class instead of a physical education or fine arts class.

Obesity may delay puberty in boys
February 8 2010 - The obesity epidemic may be producing a generation of late-blooming males. Overweight boys tend to start puberty at a later age than their less-heavy peers, according to one of the first studies to chart the effects of childhood obesity on male sexual development.

Florida kids opt out of gym class
February 1 2010 - Tens of thousands of Florida children are ditching gym classes now that students in kindergarten through eighth grade can opt out with a note from Mom or Dad. Last semester, when public schools introduced physical-education waivers, about 15,000 kids in Central Florida alone decided to skip running laps and playing basketball to take other courses, according to the Florida Department of Education.
