Stewart Davidson 1975-1976

Very few members of our profession have been so steeped in and involved
with the affairs of the Canadian Association than Dr. Stewart Davidson. Born in Westmount, Quebec, in 1921, he attended McGill University for his B.Sc. (P.E.) degree, after four years of service in the R.C.A.F., during which his interest in physical education and sport was whetted anew because of his personal responsibilities and commitments.
At McGill his professional zeal was confirmed under the influence of Dr. A. S. Lamb, and he subsequently went on to graduate studies at Columbia University in New York, from which he received the M.A. and the Ed.D. degrees.
After successful teaching careers in Elementary and Secondary schools in Greater Montreal, he became the Supervisor of Physical Education for the Protestant School Board, from which position he resigned in 1968 to accept an appointment with the University of Ottawa. Despite responsibilities as a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physical Education he still finds time to continue his active contributions to CAHPER; his contributions to the Association over the past three years are of special significance. He has been Chairman of Finance to the Executive Committee; he chaired the Task Force which was assigned the job of preparing the Report following the Fitness and Amateur Sport/CAHPER Conference. And at the request of the President assumed the onerous task of revising the Constitution and By-laws which come into force this year.
Throughout all of his very active professional involvement Dr. Davidson has not neglected his family of two daughters and two sons, nor curtailed his activities in his church and the community. Square Dance calling, coaching minor hockey and authoring numerous professional articles, which have been published in several Journals, received the same enthusiastic and effective commitment. Throughout his professional career Dr. Davidson has received the kind of dedication and support from his wife, Elsie, which has enabled this quiet, modest individual to be so effective in his contributions to the field of physical education.

R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Addresses
In reviewing past records I learned that this the 20th anniversary of the R. Tait McKenzie Address given by a Canadian to our Association. That, in itself, makes this an historic occasion and adds weight to the responsibility given to me.
